Montenegro Roadtrip Tips: Driving and Montenegrin Toll Roads (3/3)
Montenegro doesn’t have toll roads! Which is great if you are travelling by own car or rented. However, they have online one tunnel with toll – it’s called Sozina. It connects the Capital city of Podgorica with south – Bar. It cost’s 2.5 EUR, which is super cheap comparing to toll in Croatia, Slovenia or Italy. There is no option to buy it online, only on the entrance of the tunnel.
Driving a rented car in Montenegrin Towns:
Everything I love about exploring little Montenegrin towns (pedestrian-friendly walkways, picturesque narrow alleyways, beautiful nature, amazing hospitality, etc).
- Driving In the Historical Town Centres of Montenegro is not easy: There are a lot of narrow one-way streets, tight blind turns and very narrow streets. It’s best to park 1km from the downtown and walk-in instead. However, parking will is much cheaper in the centre surrounding.
- Visit Kotor and Boka Bay: Whole Old town Kotor is under UNESCO protection. It’s a town museum. You can enjoy walking and taking stunning pictures. We recommend a one day trip to Kotor.
- Visit Budva: Budva is amazing. The tiny old town is beautiful. The beaches in Budva are the most popular on the Balkan and Montenegro. You will enjoy Mogren beach, Jaz, Kamenovo, Budvanska riviera etc.
- Close Your Side Mirrors When You Park: This will reduce the chance of someone scraping your car as they drive by on a narrow street.
- Visit North of Montenegro: North is stunning! If you are gonna rent a car in Montenegro, do not skip your chance to visit Zabljak, Dumitor, Kolasin and Bjelasica.
- Ensure Your Accommodations Offer Parking: Free is best, of course!
